Black Apron is a Tri-Cities based small focus nonprofit to provide free culinary services, social interaction and even culinary education to those in need. Our goal is to help provide assistance in preparing custom home-cooked meals for community members who have trouble obtaining them otherwise. There are many potential barriers for people getting home-cooked meals: age, ability, income, and skill to name a few. We firmly believe that a community is only as strong as its most vulnerable members. If you or someone you know has trouble preparing meals please contact us! Our service is free, tailored for your needs, flexible, open, and judgement-free. No matter what your living situation or condition is like, we’re here to help.
At this time, due to Health Department requirements, we can only provide chef services, food preparation, cooking, and cleanup. It’s our goal to help facilitate Good Samaritan food donations from local grocers and restaurants that might have food that needs to get used, but that is still an ongoing process. We are more than happy to work with clients on picking up pre-purchased groceries if they have trouble getting ingredients.
In short, you can expect:
- Free culinary services for those that need it.
- A chef will travel to the residence, prep, cook and clean a meal.
- Due to health department requirements we can’t provide the food only the chef services, however our chefs can also provide culinary education if wanted.
- You can apply for yourself or others
We also highly encourage anyone eligible to take advantage of the Kennewick Farmer’s Market’s matching program. They will match SNAP benefits so what you have available goes twice as far!
We only have one chef for right now so please be patient for when we can get to you. Chef Randy is fully vaxxed, Servsafe certified, and we have a Potentially Hazardous Food Temp log to help keep everyone as food safe as possible but the client will need to sign a liability waiver so they need to be of age and able to sign contracts for themselves, or have someone with power of attorney to do so. We hope to be able to help as many people as want it. Together we can make a difference.
